Washroom now

With a new window, the chimney breasts removed, and a tiled floor, this has become a useful washroom. The kitchen units and sink seen here were from the kitchen we installed in 1982 and given a second life.
What is not obvious from the previous picture is that the kitchen floor above this room was double-joisted. Above the main joists were cross-joists of (if I remember correctly) 3" x 4", laid on their sides. Whatever the thinking behind this design was, it didn't work because not only did it reduce the headroom to an unuseable 5ft 9ins, it had sagged by about 3" in the back right corner as well. The solution was complete replacement of the floor, which now gives a bit more than 6ft headroom.
